Wow, the weather has been just beautiful this week. All of a sudden I don't need my coat during the day, and it's starting to smell like Spring. I hadn't really realized just how bored I was getting of Winter.

University is in the final stretch - final exams are in April. I've decided to look for a summer job rather than take classes during the holiday, since we're probably going to visit family in August. It's so much easier to leave a job mid-August than to miss classes right before an exam period, you know? Plus, y'know, money. Now I just need to find work ...

So, last weekend, I saw Watchmen with my dad and brother.Read more... )

I think I lost my train of thought :-P Maybe I'll have something more to say tomorrow ... after I watch it for the fourth time (What? I like it!).

Immature Moment of the Day: I'm in Language Studies, right? And we're talking about language in the construction of national identity, when an odd definition of "community" came up: "A deep, horizontal comradeship regardless of class ... differences." I probably don't have to explain what 'deep, horizontal comradeship' made me think of *sigh*

Ooh, I hadn't heard of this movie before the 'news story' came up on my homepage. A romantic comedy starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor? Looks interesting!

On a similar note, I haven't seen Milk yet :-( They didn't play it in town (we have a small theatre, so they only go for the high grossing films - which controversial films are not) and I don't have anyone locally who wants to drive around to see it. I imagine it will take even longer to see I Love You Phillip Morris, since it's an independant film.

Either it will be quite good, because I have to wait, or it will be a HUGE disappointment. We shall see!

So, on Friday I managed to put both my shirt and my sweater on inside out, which I did not notice until I got to university. At which point, by the way, it was 6:30am and I was very groggy and unsurprised.

So, yes, the bus strike is still going strong and I'm still getting to uni unbearably early. The situation is great for reading, though - I'm getting all my assigned readings finished at school.

Yesterday my mother and I went to see The Curious case of Benjamin Button. That is a sad movie, guys, no two ways about it. We also rented Ghost Town which was funny but not great. Some of the gags were a little drawn out, and I found myself waiting for a plot twist that never came.

I feel like I have more to say but ... nope, that's it. Toodles, guys.

*sigh* Well, today is the last day of break, and I'm back to uni tomorrow. The bus strike in Ottawa is still going on and will continue for at least a week, I think, before the next vote comes up. This is pretty aggravating for people like me, who rely on the bus to commute. Argh, argh. Luckily I have a relative of a relative who works at Carleton (yay!) so I will be bumming rides until then.

Anyway, happy New Year! I don't think I've said it yet, have I? I had such a quiet New Year's Eve, just stayed at home and watched the CNN coverage of Times Square. Oh, and [info]rahmbamarama was trying to get 40,000 words by January 1st so I was spamming them :-P

Today my family drove into Ottawa to do a bunch of end-of-holiday shopping, before we were all busy again. I had recieved a $50 gift certificate for Chapters, so we went there and bought about ten books. I grabbed The Uncensored Bible and The Gift of Fear (which came very highly recommended by [info]cleolinda). I also picked up In & Out because it is HILARIOUS.

My brother found a new series of books to read, by Russell Kirkpatric and bought the first four. He has a fear of starting a series and not being able to find all the books, so this is his solution. And my dad picked up some really interesting history books that I simply must borrow once he's done.

Being out all day has given me a headache, unfortunately, so I must be off. Toodles.

I'm contemplating going for a walk after dinner. It's really nice out; sunny, not too warm.

On Tuesday my father, brother and I all took the bus into Ottawa. I want to practice taking the bus into Carleton U, figure out the schedules and such, before starting school in the Fall. So we caught the bus that shuttles people into the city at 7am and then figured out which bus would get me to the university. That part's very simple. I'm still not quite sure how to get back in the afternoon, but I have some time to sort it out.

While in Ottawa we decided to take in a film. I really wanted to see The Love Guru (Stephen!) but unfortunately it was only being shown in the evenings *sigh* We saw WALL-E intead, and I enjoyed it.

Tommorrow is a) My great-granmother's birthday party, b) a strawberry social at the local museum (yum ...), c) a labyrinth tour at the same place (although, haha, I checked out the 'labyrinth' today and it's all of an inch high - will be interesting to see what they do with it for tomorrow), and d) the unveiling of the Hallmark Christmas decorations. This last one is relevant because my mother works there.

It promises to be a busy weekend!

I went to see Horton Hears A Who on Thursday, after work. Carol Burnett, Steve Carell, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Jim Carrey - there was an impressive cast list. And the story was well-adapted to screen, although perhaps a little below my level :-P

What I found particularly interesting, however, was one of the trailers. Our local theatre only recently started showing most trailers; the previous owners usually skipped them. This trailer was for the new Ice Age film. It was called Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

Dawn of the Dinosaurs? The title has me immediately confused. And the poster doesn't help, since it shows the characters from the previous films with dinosaurs ... what? The last one depressed me and now this one makes no sense.

On another topic: Earth Hour. Has anyone seen the ads they've been running for this event? I caught a few today, including this one with Richard Branson. First, whoo! Report connection! (I'm a nerd). Second, plz2b watching, kthnx. He asks viewers to turn off their lights and 'see how much fun [they] can have in the dark.' Does that sound a tad dirty, or is it me? (It might be me).
