Stupid and funny Star Trek parody ... thing. Stephen Colbert as Spock just about slayed me (and Jon Stewart was Khan!) not to mention the surprise Christopher Walken.

In other news, I was reading the AC360 blog and found this story on why Americans need to know more about our fair country up here. Which I don't necessarly disagree with, I mean ... we're right here. We don't have much of an excuse for having poor relations. Anyway, it reminded me of a book I recently read called The U.S. of Eh?

It was written for Americans. Why? To show them that we're the ones who are actually pulling the strings :-D There are Canadian connections EVERYWHERE, and this books uses them to prove that we are, in fact, America's benevolent overlords. I recommend it to everyone on my flist :-D

There other day, on my drive to university, the radio was having a love-affair with Obama. Seriously. Have you all heard about the Canadian radio station compiling a list of '49 songs from above the 49th parallel'? It's an Inaugaration mix for Obama, from Canada, and you can read the list here (I'm rather partial to Canada's Really Big).

Also, now that I've listened to American Woman ... wow, that's not very flattering, is it?)

That isn't the only thing that CBC Radio 2 has done for Obama; they haven't stopped talking about him (admittedly, he's coming up here in a few weeks). What I found most amusing was the rendition of La Bamba reworked as Obama. It was hilarious. On a similar note, my ASL prof was in my Language Studies class to give a lecture on signed languages and how they are different than spoken ones, and he told us how the Deaf community had given Obama a sign name. It kind of mimics his campaign logo, it's an O with a wave under it.

Oh, and while I'm here: my family was in Ottawa on the weekend, and passed by a street called Elvis Lives Road XD

The snow was really picking up as I was coming home today, it looks like we might be having a bit of a storm tonight. And! We're about to get the first serious freeze in Ontario this winter, with temperatures below -30 degrees. Sooo cooold.

The bus strike is still on-going, with no end on the horizon. Good/bad, the TAs at my university are voting on their own strike this week, and if classes were cancelled dur to a strike, at least students wouldn't have to venture out into the cold? I mean, that probably isn't worth it in the end, but brrrrr.

I've been driving in early (when my ride leaves, doncha know) so I've had a lot of free time at university. The result of this is that I've finished all my books for English class this term. Particularly good was Being There, and I know there was a film adaptation. I might have to track it down.

... My brother is making a Sidekick and, reading the directions, he says, "It says a cup of milk ... is that a teacup?" *facepalm*

Prompt me over on my fandom journal.

I just recieved the second shirt on this page :-D I'm quite happy with it. The medium turned out to be a little tight ... but I find that I don't mind. It arrived promptly, too, which is apparently an issue with Questionable Content merchandise.

I have three more exams before I am free for the hoidays. Luckily(?) for me, they start tomorrow and run one after the other, so I'll be finished by Friday. My plan after finishing: 1) holiday baking (Lots of cookies and bars and some fudge), 2) finish my Secret Santa fic for [info]fakenews_fanfic. Oh, and 3) sleep :-D

My asthma has been acting up recently and I was left breathless today on my walk to and then from the chiropractor's office. It quickly went away after I got home and sat down for awhile.

Now my heart's racing. It's like the memory of suffocating has triggered an adrenaline rush, my breathing right now seems fine. I'm just going to lie here for a bit.

I failed to mention it, but I recently purchased a laptop.

A recent post by colbertobsessed reminded my that I have yet to name this new addition to my household! So:

Do you have an idea for a name? Give it here; I need ideas!

Let the people decide who should ruin this country~

And by 'this' I mean the States. Especially fun if you don't live in the States and you find all this crazy election stuff amusing. Why not join in the fun? Kinda ;-)

Whoo! :-D

In celebration of the holiday season, I have been baking. A Lot. So far, I have made the following:

Ten Minute Fudge (a family favourite)
Chocolate-Rum Balls
Cranberry-Pistachio Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ginger Cookies
Cinnamon-Nut Cookies
Chai Latte Cookies
Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Cookies
Maple Pecan Drops
Fudgy Raspberry Brownies

I've been putting together platters for everyone :-D (By 'everyone' I mean a few odd relatives, a helpful neighbour, Friend Katie's family, a partyish gathering I attended on Christmas Eve, and our big family dinner)

Hopefully I'll have the time to make some Coffee-Cardamom Bars and Butterscotch Bars this week. They look good, and I've already bought the cardamom (expensive).

Cheat at Scrabble for charity. Better yet, help the team of Hodgman/Oliver cheat!

(... they play Scrabble together) *cough*

For Christmas I gave my brother a jar of vindaloo spice (Red Dwarf joke) and a twenty-year-old unopened can of coca-cola (... he wanted one *shrug*). In return I recieved a DVD of A Wish For Wings That Work. The nostalgia! I used to watch that every Christmas.

*shifty eyes* I also have it on good authority that Strangers With Candy: The Complete Series is en route. It did not arrive for Christmas and therefore, according to my mother, is going to be my birthday gift. My birthday was almost three months ago. I still appreciate the sentiment.

I hope everyone is having a pleasant time. Have a song :-)

Last night was commencement, i.e. GRADUATION. Yes, that's right, it's been four months since I've been in class and I've been working full-time since then... but now I have a diploma. It feels nice.

The actual ceremony wasn't too bad. I have attended commencement the last few years as a member of the band so the boring bits were, you know, expected. And it wasn't as warm in the cafetorium as it could have been.

I even won things! :-D One of the music awards (Katie won the other one - yay!), and a creative writing award. It was unexpected and pleasing.

Seeing some people again was nice, too. Mostly Katie (who I've not lost touch with, anyway) and Ryan (... who I have also not lost touch with). It was fun and tiring.

My birthday was on Monday (btw, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY [info]spacemonkeyluvn). No big celebrations, just went out to dinner. I'm no longer a teenager! No gifts (unless you count the awesome Jack Sparrow cookie Katie got me :-D) so I am spoiling myself. Have ordered:

1) I Am America (And So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert.

1a) I Am America (And So Can You!), the audiobook. I hear it's worth it. I mean, really worth it.

2) You may be sensing a theme at this point, but Stephen Colbert's Tek Jansen Adventures #1.

3) Again with the theme, but: Wigfield, by Stephen Colbert, Paul Dinello, and Amy Sedaris. It is generally considered worth buying this book for the pictures alone.

4) The Rick Mercer Report: The Book, by (guesses, anyone?) Rick Mercer.

The total cost was reasonable, and I haven't been spending much lately. So I'm happy.

:-)

The trouble with having four (yes, I have four) blogs, especially when they overlap, is knowing what to put in them. On LiveJournal I have two for one very good reason: I don't write very often (nor particularly well). I decided to make a fandom journal for posting fic and for participating in fandom-only comms. This has served me well.

Then LJ starting with the we have decided to judge the morality of your posts and delete you as we see fit thing, so I thought, "Hey! Back-up time!" And that's what my GreatestJournal is - a complete back-up of my LJ. Anyone I have friended over there is unique to that journal. I think there are only two of them, but they're nice and I am glad I came across them :-D

But my InsaneJournal is supposed to be disconnected from my LJ/GJ. So I post random crap that, really, I don't think anyone cares about. (I mean, more so than with my 'real' blog :-P) BUT, several LJ people have migrated over here. I very much enjoy their blogs, and so have friended them (er, you. As all four of you are probably reading/skimming this).

As I only post here when I am feeling anti-Lj or whatall, I feel like it's mildly unfair. I mean, I'm reading all your posts and you aren't really getting mine - even if my LJ content isn't much more interesting :-P At least there's more of it!

Hmm, I just realized that my userinfo claims I was born in 1910. Better go remedy that.

Even though the pay is lousy (minimum wage - what can I say?), my hands are looking worse every day, and I walk home aching most days, I love work. Nothing feels better than heading to work in the morning :-D School's going to kill me next year.

My interest in The Colbert Report may be bordering on obsession at this point. But, hey - I'm happy! :-P Did you know that Vanity Fair has an interview with Stephen in the October 2007 issue? And he has a book coming out in October? Oh, and Best of the Colbert Report is out in November?

I need to find more authors like Christopher Moore and A. Lee Martinez, because their novels are so fun to read.

God help me, I'm starting to care about politics. All the times I complained about my mother's obsession were for nothing; she's infected me (although Stewart and Colbert may have been an influence. And Rick Mercer. Dammit, it's all the comedians' fault!) I'm much happier when I recognize a reference and can follow a story on the evening news. Gasp, I'm becoming informed.

Bambu: because coffee is such a bad idea when you have insomnia *headdesk*

I cleaned out my roooom! Threw out a bunch of junk, donated half my clothes to charity, sorted through my books, and managed to fill about five bags with miscellaneous things to be sold/donated/otherwise disposed of. It feels so good.

Skirts. I never used to wear skirts, for some reason. Now I wear them whenever I'm not at work.

Yes, so, I'm happy :-D I hope everyone else is having a good life.

Is it just me, or does Tony Snow share a passing resemblance with Hugh Laurie?

Photographic 'evidence' )

Maybe it's just my overactive mind making associations where there are none, but Hugh's face pops to mind whenever I see dear Mr. Snow.

So, I had a dream last night. I'm not going to relate the whole thing, but I will do a point-form synopsis. Because it's dreams like this that make me wonder how my brain works.

1. I was set up on a date with a very rude robin, who insisted I place her tea in a cup right next to the centrepiece on the table. Then she just sat in her nest all evening.

2. I fell asleep while a chiropractor was trying to crack my neck.

3. Inspired by my watching of Vacancy yesterday, I was with group of people in a tunnel. Gah, claustrophobia.

4. I walked to school in the snow, talking about Friend Katie to people I don't know.

5. I ran into Jeremy From Band at school, at some sort of gay support meeting o.O In a big room with escalators leading to the ceiling and back.

6. Argus Filch was the custodian.

7. Found Friend Katie, and Friends-of-Friend Mike and Melissa, sleeping in a stairwell leading to the school roof.

8. There were dead people arranged on orange garbage bags all over the roof.

And somehow this was all connected in a single storyline.
